Marble is a soft, calcium-rich stone, and that is the whole reason why it must be treated differently from most other surfaces in a home. Acid corrodes marble, so neither vinegar, lemon nor ordinary limescale remover should ever be used on a marble countertop, no matter how well it works elsewhere. Marble should be cleaned with a mild soap without abrasives, and afterwards the stone benefits from care that leaves a thin protective layer and makes the surface more resistant to water and grease. Limescale on marble typically comes from water that has been allowed to dry in, which is why it is most often found around the sink, in the shower and on window sills. Do not use acid-based limescale removers, as they dissolve the stone itself and leave dull etching marks that cannot be polished away again. Denwax Pink Stone removes light limescale mechanically rather than chemically. Moisten the included sponge with water, rub it a few times in the tub until foam forms, then work with light movements over the limescale. Rinse the item thoroughly afterwards, remove all soap residue, and dry the surface completely.
NOTE: Pink Stone contains a mild abrasive—use a light touch and always test on a hidden area first. Do not use on polished marble with a gloss coating.
Swirl the sponge around in the tub of Denwax Clean four to six times without water, and wipe it over the marble. The soap consists of 85% pure soft soap and contains neither abrasives nor optical brighteners, so it loosens grease and dirt without attacking the stone. Then remove all soap residue with a damp cloth, and dry the marble completely straight away, because if the water is left to evaporate on its own, you will get exactly the limescale marks you are trying to avoid. Please note that light marble may become slightly darker, so test in a hidden spot the first time.
Denwax Care is based on jojoba oil, lanolin and beeswax, and it is the wax component that forms a thin protective layer while also enhancing the colour in marble that has started to look dry and grey. Apply to a clean, completely dry surface, use quick strokes in several passes, let it dry for about two minutes, then buff with a dry cloth until the surface is no longer tacky. It is better to apply a little often than a lot infrequently, and avoid working in direct sunlight. A marble countertop in a kitchen benefits from a treatment a few times a year, while marble tiles in a bathroom can often be treated less frequently.
