How to clean a laminate worktop

Take the included sponge and stir it around in the bucket of Denwax Clean four to six times without water, so that soap gets onto the sponge. Wipe the sponge over the worktop and repeat on areas with grease or dried-on dirt, rinsing the sponge as you go. Then remove all excess soap with a damp cloth and wipe with a dry cloth so the surface does not end up streaky. Cleaning a laminate worktop works best at around 20°C or below, and please note that very light surfaces may become slightly darker, so test in a hidden area the first time.

How to care for and maintain a laminate worktop

Caring for a laminate worktop always begins with a clean, completely dry surface, as the care product cannot adhere properly on top of dirt. Take the sponge under the lid of Denwax Care, wipe it a few times in the bucket and wipe it off on the rim so you do not apply too much. Then apply in quick strokes in several passes until the surface shows a sheen, let it dry for about two minutes, and buff with a dry cloth. Care is based on jojoba oil, lanolin and beeswax, and it is this combination that provides the water-repellent effect and brings the colour back in a surface that has started to look grey. For maintaining a laminate worktop in a normal kitchen, a few times a year is sufficient, and more often if the surface is heavily used. Avoid applying in direct sunlight.

Black and matte laminate worktop

A black laminate worktop shows everything, and fingerprints and grease streaks are especially noticeable on matte versions. For maintaining a matte black laminate worktop, we recommend Denwax Clean only, because the soap removes fingerprints and grease without leaving shine where there should be none. Use a damp cloth to remove any soap residue and wipe with a dry cloth so the surface becomes evenly matte again. On glossy black surfaces and on all other colours, you can use both Clean and Care as described above.

Stains and marks on laminate

Wipe up spills immediately, as laminate does not tolerate moisture being left to stand and seep into the edges and joints. For everyday stains, clean with Denwax Clean and a soft sponge, and repeat a couple of times rather than pressing hard. Avoid scouring pads, chlorine and alcohol, which can abrade or bleach the surface and are the most common reason a laminate worktop develops glossy or matte patches that cannot be corrected. Please note that Denwax Clean does not remove limescale, so limescale marks must be treated with a product intended for that purpose.
