What Denwax Waterproofing Spray does

Denwax Waterproofing Spray is used for effective waterproofing of nubuck, suede, alcantara, canvas and fabric. The spray has high penetration even after machine washing and is very economical to use.

The spray is made in Denmark. Without gas and without PFAS.

How to use Denwax Waterproofing Spray

The item to be treated must be dry and clean before you start. Always apply outdoors and never in enclosed spaces.

Apply the atomizer sprayer from a distance of approx. 25 cm in an even layer until the fabric is soaked. Take care at seams and joints, especially at the shoulders and sleeves of outdoor clothing, as these are the most vulnerable areas in rain and sleet.

After application, the item must cure for a minimum of 24 hours at around 20 degrees to achieve the full effect. Otherwise repeat the treatment.

Consumption may vary depending on fabric thickness. Do not fold, bend or roll items until the curing time has expired.

The coverage can be calculated (approx. grams per m2) as: 100 ml. = 70 grams.

Nylon = approx. 30 g = 50 ml.

Polyester / Cotton = approx. 30 g = 50 ml.

Pure Cotton = approx. 180 g = 120 ml.

NOTE: wipe the tent windscreen and PVC immediately with a dry cloth to avoid burning.

The impregnation spray is colorless and does not stain/stain or stiffen the item. Contains no heavy metals or chlorinated solvents.

Always apply outdoors. Keep out of reach of children.

How to Use the Water-Repellent Spray

The fabric must be clean and completely dry before you begin, because the waterproofing won’t adhere properly to dirt or moisture. Go outdoors and spray from a distance of about 25 centimeters in even layers until the fabric is thoroughly saturated. Give seams and joints an extra coat, as these are the first places to start leaking. Then let the fabric cure for at least 24 hours at around 20 degrees before using it. Always apply the spray outdoors, and if any spray gets on PVC or the windows of a tent, wipe it off immediately. Keep the product out of the reach of children.

Waterproofing without PFAS and without gas

Most traditional waterproofing agents derive their water-repellent effect from fluorinated compounds, which are collectively known as PFAS. Denwax Waterproofing Spray is made without PFAS and without propellant, so its water-repellent effect does not come from fluorinated chemistry. Without a propellant, there’s also no mist, unlike with spray cans, making it easier to target the area you actually want to treat. The product is colorless, leaves no stains, and does not stiffen the fabric, as some PFAS-free alternatives tend to do.

Waterproofing Shoes and Boots

Shoes made of suede, nubuck, and fabric absorb water, and they quickly become dark and scuffed if they aren’t protected. Brush them clean and let them dry completely before waterproofing them, because if there’s salt or dirt on the surface, you’ll just lock it in. Spray outdoors from a distance of about 25 centimeters until the entire surface is thoroughly saturated, and be sure to cover the seam between the upper and the sole, where water most often seeps in. Let the shoes cure for at least 24 hours before wearing them. For leather shoes, however, you shouldn’t use the spray; instead, use Denwax Care, which conditions and waterproofs leather in a single step.

Waterproofing Rainwear and Jackets

A rain jacket rarely stops being waterproof because the membrane fails. Usually, it’s the water-repellent treatment on the outer layer of the fabric that has worn off, and when water starts to soak into the outer fabric instead of beading off, the jacket feels wet and cold on the inside. Wash the jacket according to the care label and let it dry completely before re-waterproofing it; then spray it outdoors in even layers until the fabric is thoroughly saturated. The shoulders, hood, and pocket edges wear out first, so give them an extra coat. Let the garment cure for at least 24 hours at around 20 degrees.

Waterproofing Tents, Awnings, and Canopies

A tent or awning rarely develops leaks all the way around at once. Water seeps in through seams, zippers, and the places where the tent fabric has been folded up for a long time. Set up the tent, clean it, and let it dry completely before you begin, then spray the fabric in even layers from the outside until it’s thoroughly soaked, paying extra attention to all the seams. The windows in the tent are usually made of PVC, and if any spray gets on them, it must be wiped off immediately. Let the tent sit and cure for at least 24 hours before packing it away again. The same applies to awnings, canopies, and other heavy-duty textiles left outdoors.

Waterproofing Sofa and Upholstery Fabric

A fabric or Alcantara sofa gets stained because the liquid has time to soak into the fibers before you can wipe it up. A water-repellent treatment doesn’t change the fact that you need to wipe up spills quickly, but it gives you a few extra seconds—and that’s often the difference between a stain and no stain. Vacuum the furniture, let it dry completely if it’s just been cleaned, and spray in even layers over the entire surface to ensure the color is uniform. The sofa must cure for at least 24 hours, and because the spray must always be applied outdoors, removable cushions and covers are easiest to work with. If the sofa is made of leather, use Denwax Care instead.

Here’s how much you’ll need

How far a bottle goes depends on how much the fabric absorbs. For a blend of nylon, polyester, and cotton, you should allow about 50 milliliters for approximately 30 grams of fabric, while pure cotton absorbs significantly more and requires about 120 milliliters for approximately 180 grams of fabric. It’s better to apply too much than too little, because the areas that aren’t thoroughly saturated are exactly where water will seep in later.

What the spray should not be used for

The waterproofing spray is designed for fabric and should not be used on leather. For leather, faux leather, metal, wood, rubber, and stone, use Denwax Care, which both conditions and waterproofs smooth surfaces. The spray is also not intended for tiles, masonry, or concrete; for these surfaces, use products specifically designed for building materials. And it must always be applied outdoors, no matter how little you use.
